Why You’ll Love Lumos Spring Garden Street
Our studios are a welcoming space for all levels—beginners to seasoned pros.
Lumos instructors are passionate about the classes they lead, and guide and inspire every step of the way. All of our pilates instructors are certified to teach Pilates through programs such as Drexel Pilates, Balanced Body, Ellie Herman Pilates, and Peak Pilates.
A class at Lumos is a chance to move your body, calm your mind, and connect with others.
The Spring Garden Street studio is our largest studio, with two dedicated rooms for group classes, and individual rooms for private training sessions.
Located in a historic building, we preserved many of the original architectural features during construction, and commissioned a mural in the entry by a local artist.
All of our studios have amenities like a bottle filling station and cups, and hand towels, menstrual care products, and hair ties in the bathrooms.

-

For Pilates, wear clothes you are comfortable in and that you can move in! For Reformer, we recommend wearing full or capri-length pants or leggings. Grip socks are required. We do have grip socks for sale at this location. Grip socks help you hold positions by gripping the floor or footbar on reformers for better traction and stability. Pilates mats and props are provided.
-
Mat Pilates and Springboard Pilates are beginner friendly! Both of these classes are designed to build core strength, so while movements may feel challenging to beginners, just remember you are developing and working core muscles that weren’t exercised in this way before.

Reformer Basics: This class will go over the different parts of the Reformer, how to get on and off, how to properly hold different pieces, and how to clean up/reset the Reformer after use. Attendees will be guided through a short flow to get a feel for what they can expect in an open level class. If you cannot make it to a Reformer Basics class, we recommend starting with Level 1 or Reformer Express, and plan on arriving at least 10 minutes prior to class to talk with your instructor and get a brief introduction to the machine.
Reformer Express and Level I: These are open level, beginner-friendly classes, with options and modifications provided throughout. Express classes are 45 minutes, and will utilize props such as a pilates ball or magic circle to enhance specific muscle engagement, provide support for alignment, and add challenges to a full body-workout.
Level II: This is an intermediate-advanced level Reformer class. This class is best suited for those with a regular Reformer Pilates practice. For safety, we require those attending Level II classes to have completed at least 20 Reformer Pilates classes, either at Lumos or at another studio. Proof of prior attendance is required - a screenshot of visit history if it was not taken through Lumos is acceptable, and may be emailed to info@lumosfitness.com. This requirement is to ensure those attending have a solid grasp of the equipment, and the ability to apply mind-body awareness in relation to the equipment, both of which are essential.

Our Pilates classes follow the principles developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's, with a contemporary spin on sequencing. Many of our pilates instructors are multi-disciplinary, and have yoga or dance backgrounds - their knowledge and trainings lends itself to the Pilates movements and principles, with more of a flow to their sequencing and movements.

“I have been taking classes with Lumos for years so I was excited when the new Spring Garden Street studio opened. The new studio is terrific: the space has high ceilings, big windows and tons of natural light. It is spacious and offers several studio spaces for all kinds of classes: mat, Pilates, reformer and springboard to name a few. The instructors are excellent, the classes are varied and the entire gestalt is body positive. It’s wonderful. Come see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.”

“I’m absolutely enchanted by the new space and the line-up of instructors. I am loving getting to know the reformer better and all its possibilities. Having access to a Pilates studio near home again has been great.”
