Tarot Card & Journaling Workshop with Gina Tomaine - Featuring the Philly Tarot Deck

Join Gina Tomaine, author of the Philly Tarot Deck Guidebook, at Lumos for a workshop featuring the Philly Tarot Deck. How do you use tarot in your daily life? In this session, we'll explore useful methods or rituals using the cards, and the benefits of finding inspiration or grounding in mediums like tarot. Tarot can help jump start your day—or, contrarily, soothe and center you if you're in need of rest in the evening. Tarot can also direct you to new ways of thinking or seeing problems, and get your creativity flowing. Let's pull cards, journal, and talk about our relationship to writing and ritual together. We will discuss some of the basics of tarot reading, and how to pull cards to incorporate into a writing or journaling practice, as well as meditate on cards pulled.

Attendees can come just for the workshop and bring their own deck, or can purchase the workshop + The Philly Tarot Deck. The deck typically costs $40; but costs $30 when purchased alongside the workshop. Attendees can also bring their own notepad or journal, or purchase one at the studio. Our neighbor Rachael from Aiyah will have a selection of journals from Wild House Paper available for purchase at Lumos just for this workshop! We will also have a limited number of prints from the Philly Tarot Deck available for purchase.

  • Time: 1:00-3:00 PM

  • Investment: $25 for workshop only, or $55 for workshop + deck

  • Led by Gina Tomaine

  • Location: Lumos Yoga & Barre Green Street

  • All Levels Welcome

  • Capacity will be limited to 14 attendees

GINA TOMAINE is a Philadelphia-based writer and editor. She is the author of The Philly Tarot Deck Guide Book and currently the Health and Wellness Editor of Philadelphia magazine. Her features, essays, and commentary have been featured in New York magazine’s The Cut, Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, Yoga Journal, Runner’s World, Good Housekeeping, and Longreads. She works intermittently as an adjunct professor of literature and writing at Saint Joseph's University, as a RYT-200 yoga teacher, and as a self-taught practitioner of intuitive tarot.

JAMES BOYLE is a professional illustrator. He is the creator of the Philly Tarot Deck. He lives outside of Philadelphia with his wife, daughter, and two cats. His art has been featured in magazines, comic books, posters, and album covers. He is also an adjunct professor.

ABOUT THE PHILLY TAROT DECK In October 2018, Gina wrote an article for Philadelphia magazine about the local popularity of tarot reading and astrology. Illustrator James Boyle and art director Alyse Moyer came up with an accompanying image of three Philadelphia-themed tarot cards. There was such an overwhelming response that James set out to produce a full custom Philadelphia-themed Tarot deck, complete with an accompanying guidebook written by Gina. The deck has 78 full-color illustrations featuring beloved icons like Gritty, the Rocky Statue, a SEPTA bus, and City Hall.
