AcuYoga with Jule Lane & Dr. Aidan Kaye, DC LAc CCSP

We all need a reset every once in a while! AcuYoga is the perfect opportunity to enhance the mind-body connection with an energetic yoga flow that culminates in an acupuncture savasana. Together, yoga and acupuncture form a powerful experience that balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, serving as a catalyst for mental and physical health.

Yoga and Acupuncture are both traditional methods of balancing the Autonomic Nervous System and have been practiced for thousands of years. Yoga uses methods
of movement, breath, and meditation, while acupuncture is the insertion of tiny needles into targeted areas of the body.

Yoga purposefully challenges practitioners physically and energetically in a controlled environment to activate both the sympathetic (flight, fight, freeze) and parasympathetic (rest, digest, heal) nervous systems to find homeostasis. Acupuncture points used in this workshop are the Yintang forehead point, known to reduce anxiety, and two ear points to directly target the Vagus Nerve, known to regulate the
autonomic nervous system.

The ear needles are semi-permanent, and students will be able to continue their acupuncture treatment for up to four days until the needles fall out naturally. Dr. Aidan
can remove the ear needles if the student wishes.

FAQs:

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of very thin needles into muscles to promote natural healing, relieve pain, and improve function. In some cases it involves the application of heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.

How does acupuncture work?
The modern scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals change the experience of pain, or they will release other chemicals and hormones that influence the body’s own regulation system. The improved energy and
biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.

Does acupuncture hurt?
People experience acupuncture needling differently. Most patients feel only minimal pain as needles are inserted; some feel no pain at all. Acupuncture needles are very
thin and solid and are made from stainless steel. The point is smooth, not hollow with cutting edges like a hypodermic needle, and insertion through the skin is not as painful
as injections or blood sampling The risk of bruising and skin irritation is less than when using a hollow needle.

What are semi-permanent ear needles?
Semi-permanent ear needles are smaller needles with a lower profile than traditional ear needles. They are designed to be placed in the ear for a longer period of time in
order to stimulate the acupuncture point for an extended period of time. Smaller needle? Extended treatment? What’s not to love?!

This workshop will start with a brief introduction to yoga and acupuncture, acupoints that will be targeted, and an explanation of the autonomic nervous system.

Jule will lead the class in an all-levels flow - warm up, a heat-building sequence to move energy through the body, and longer held poses to prepare the bodies to rest.

As attendees settle into Savasana, Aidan will place 3 needles in each person - one removable, two semi-permanent. Attendees will relax in Savasana and allow the needles to work their benefits, and at the conclusion of Savasana Aidan will remove the one needle (and option to remove the semi-permanent ones as well).
